Michael Henze
Dietitian - MS, RDN, LD
Aloha, I'm Michael!
I was a varsity swimmer at Georgetown University where I earned a B.S. in global health. After some experiences working in public health, both domestically and abroad, I realized I wanted to effect change on a more personal level. I spent five years working as a boutique fitness instructor and personal trainer in New York City until I decided to pursue a graduate degree in nutrition and exercise physiology at Columbia University.
My expertise lies between the eating disorder field and sports nutrition, and at times helping athletes overcome disordered eating. I have experience as a dietitian at the residential, intensive outpatient, and outpatient levels of care.
I am an “all foods fit” dietitian passionate about empowering clients to make informed food decisions that support their individual goals while honoring personal and cultural practices. I spend a lot of time in sessions educating clients with evidence-based material in a world exceedingly saturated with misinformation related to food, nutrition, and exercise.
In my studies, I have found nutrition science to be extremely nuanced, and I enjoy translating high-quality scientific findings to actionable recommendations tailored to my clients' real lives. I see eating disorder recovery as an act of self love, but also as one of social justice as modern beauty standards are rooted in racism, patriarchy, and classism.
Outside of work I enjoy anything that has to do with water, and you'd likely find me longboarding all over Maui. I also love vintage shopping, eating at food trucks, and curling up on the couch with my dogs to watch reality tv shows.
